What is Art Therapy?

Art-making is a tool we can use in therapy to deepen the exploration of feelings and provide new insights toward growth.

Art with kids: Generally, it’s pretty natural and comfortable for kids to make art. As a trained art therapist, art-making becomes a valuable tool for building rapport, clinical assessment and the indirect facilitation of therapeutic interventions.

Art with adults: It can feel less natural for adults to engage in art-making. If one is willing to try it, all of the above benefits apply. Additionally, because adults have a bit more developmental capacity, we can use the art in more directive ways, thus allowing for deeper and more specific explorations.
